The world's first extreme-fast charging battery professional factory put into operation

On October 30, 2023, the world's first professional factory for extreme fast charging(XFC) power batteries was built and put into operation in Nansha Headquarters Base of Guangzhou Greater Bay Technology  Research Co., Ltd. 

Relevant leaders of Guangzhou, Dong Yang, Chairman of China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, Wu Yang, Director of Nansha District People's Government of Guangzhou, Zeng Qinghong, Chairman of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., Yi Wenquan, Chairman of China Construction Fourth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., Huang Xiangdong and President Pei Feng attended the event.

The factory is the world's first professional factory for large-scale production and manufacturing of advanced fast charging (10-15 minutes) and even extreme fast charging (5-10 minutes, XFC) electric power batteries, with leading manufacturing level and technical capabilities.Its production is a new starting point for Greater Bay Technology Research to develop upward and win the market, and will further release the high-end and high-quality production capacity of power batteries in China and promote the high-quality development of the industry.

With the development of a new round of low-carbon clean energy revolution in the world, the growth of new energy vehicles has entered the fast lane, and the convenience of charging has become the most concerned issue for users. Energy supplement anxiety is replacing endurance anxiety as the biggest difficulty for the further increase of the penetration rate of new energy vehicles. XFC technology is the biggest accelerator and enabler for the popularization of new energy vehicles, which has become the focus of competition in the global new energy industry and one of the inevitable trends of the industry.

At present, the maximum charging speed of the power battery independently developed by Greater Bay Technology Research Institute is six times that of the existing ordinary battery, and the vehicle has won the world record of "the fastest charging technology for electric vehicles" issued by the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA).In order to show the application results of the technology more intuitively, the official conducted a demonstration of  XFC  at the event site: under 480 kw charging power, the power of Greater Bay Technology's  XFC  power battery increased from 32% to 83%, and the charging time was 4 minutes and 46 seconds.

Independent construction and strict standards, highlighting the five technological highlights of "specialization, refinement, specialty, innovation and strictness"

Located at Greater Bay Technology Nansha Headquarters Base on the east side of Dongyong Section of Nansha Avenue, Nansha District, Guangzhou City, the "World's First Professional Factory for  XFC  Power Batteries" started construction in May 2022, covering an area of about 189,000 square meters, with a total planned investment of about 4 billion yuan.Its main functions include fast/extremely fast charging battery core and PACK production plant, R & D center, trial production test center and headquarters.

As the "mother factory" for the R & D and production of XFC extreme speed battery core and follow-up new energy storage devices and their PACK integrated system, the project also has a large-scale R & D and design center, trial production and test center, etc., with a total capacity of 8 GWh/year after full completion.At present, 4Gwh has been put into use.

With independent innovation, scientific and rigorous production technology and process, Greater Bay Technology Research Institute has formulated high consistency standards for the production and manufacturing process of  XFC  power batteries to ensure that the equipment in each process has high precision and reliability.

The world's first professional factory for ultra-fast charging power batteries specifically includes five highlights of "specialization, refinement, specialty, innovation and strictness":

1. Special functional electrolyte injection and formation process to achieve high-rate continuous charging

The wettability of the electrode/electrolyte interface is improved, and the activation energy barrier of ion transmission is reduced, so that the battery core can be continuously charged at a high rate and maintain an ultra-long cycle life.

2. High-precision raw material mixing process/homogenization process to ensure excellent electrochemical and thermodynamic properties of the electrode

The multi-component high-precision feeding system ensures a precise overcharge electrode formula, and the prepared electrode sheet has excellent electrochemical and thermodynamic characteristics by combining a raw material premixing system and a high-speed homogenizing system, so that the cell can be continuously charged at a high rate, and the cycle life and the energy density are maintained.

3. Special ultra-wide lug welding can effectively reduce the resistance and temperature rise during extremely fast charging

The overcharging battery adopts an ultra-wide tab design different from an ordinary battery, and uses a novel welding process with a larger welding area and a deeper molten pool depth, so as to realize rapid and massive electronic transmission, effectively reduce the resistance and temperature rise during extremely fast charging, and ensure the reliability and safety of the battery under complex working conditions such as vibration.

4. Multi-layer coating/rolling innovative process to achieve high energy density, long life, low cost and extremely fast charging

Multilayer coating technology combined with optimized electrode material system can greatly improve the speed of carrier transmission and electrochemical reaction, effectively avoid overcharging lithium, and realize the extremely fast charging of the core under the conditions of high energy density, long life and low cost.

5. Strict humidity/cleanliness to ensure the consistency and ultra-high safety of super rechargeable battery products

Strict environmental humidity and cleanliness control meet the requirements of the stability of sensitive raw materials of the super charging core system and ensure the product quality of the prepared extremely fast charging core.At the same time, the factory has designed environmental standards higher than the industry, combined with advanced manufacturing technology and high-precision production process control, to ensure the consistency and ultra-high safety of supercharged battery products.
